To mark the start of the festive season we've launched a very special advent calendar to help raise funds to provide books for vulnerable children at Christmas.
Each day, from December 1st to 24th a leading author or celebrity is featured in the calendar and kindly gives us their recommendation of a children's book for Christmas.
Among those taking part are Blue Peter Book Awards judge Michael de Souza, who created the Rastamouse book series, and best selling writer and illustrator Chris Riddell, whose Goth Girl and the Fete Worse Than Death were published this year. Also hiding behind one of the windows is Children's Laureate Malorie Blackman with her favourite read this Christmas.Appearing in the calendar is former Home Secretary and our very own Letterbox Club patron Alan Johnson MP. He said:
'I'm delighted to be able to help Booktrust raise money for vulnerable children through it's online advent calendar.'
'A Christmas gift of reading can help open up a whole new world for disadvantaged children.'
'With your help, we want to make Christmas special for at least 1,000 disadvantaged children. The gift of a book and the encouragement of a love of reading will help children develop the skills they need to change their lives.'
