2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War, and children in Letterbox Club aged 9 to 13 will each receive a book to commemorate the centenary.
Children in Letterbox Red aged 9-11, will receive a copy of Charlie's War in their June parcel. This is a graphic novel style format that tells the story of Mick Manning's grandfather, who joined the army in 1914 and served right through the war. It's a beautifully illustrated story with snippets of period scraps and artefacts.
Children in Letterbox Green aged 11-13, will receive a copy of Archie's War in their July parcel. This large format paperback is in the style of a scrapbook kept by ten-year-old Archie during World War One. It's an insight into what it was like to be a child at this important moment in history.
All books included in the Letterbox Club programme are selected by an independent panel of experts, who aim to select the most appropriate and best-written, illustrated and designed books for our parcels; books that capture interest and imagination and that stimulate a dialogue between parent/carer and their young children, and also between children and their peers.
