Letterbox Club highlighted as an example of best practice.
An independent cross-party inquiry into the educational attainment of looked-after children in England.
The report, launched 4th September 2012, features a series of practical recommendations, including that ‘more support should be given to providing key learning resources for foster homes. E.g. Letterbox scheme, Fostering Achievement run by Fostering Network.’
Other recommendations include; putting Virtual School Heads onto a statutory footing; introducing additional funding for children in care to be known as Pupil Premium Plus; more educational training for carers; and initiatives to strengthen support in further & higher education.
This is all very encouraging for the future, and we hope to speak to Edward Timpson MP to keep track on what changes are made and when.
