Letterbox Club Parcels
Children receive their parcels from May to October to cover the summer holiday period (when attainment levels tend to dip), whilst supporting transition to the next school year.
There are five different parcel sets:
- Letterbox Orange - for children in Year 1, to follow them into Year 2
- Letterbox Yellow - for children aged 7-9 who are not yet reading independently.
- Letterbox Blue - for children in Year 3, to follow them into Year 4
- Letterbox Red - for children in Year 5, to follow them into Year 6
- Letterbox Green - for children in Year 7, to follow them into Year 8
NEW FOR 2017
Letterbox Purple - designed to support children aged 3 -5 in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Please note: The ages are just a guide. If you've got a child who is lower or higher ability, you can choose the parcel that will suit them most. If you would like more information then please get in touch with the Letterbox Club team or call us on 020 7801 8830.
Inside the parcels
Each colourful parcel contains books, number games, stationery and a letter to the child explaining what's in their parcel. Some parcels also include special items such as writing activities, name plates, bookmarks and inspiring letters from a range of children's authors!
All of the books have been carefully selected by an independent panel of experts. The range of books includes a mixture of different genres: fairy tales, classic and contemporary stories, picture books, novelty/joke books, poetry, non-fiction and audio books.
Book selection process
The Letterbox Club is aimed at a specific group of children and the panel aims to select the most appropriate, best-written, illustrated and designed books for the parcels. This includes books that capture interest and imagination and that stimulate a dialogue between carer/parent and their children. The panel try to select books that reflect the diversity of life in Britain.
For any questions about book selection, please email Katie Webber or call 020 7801 8825.
Children in the Letterbox Club receive at least one maths game in each of their parcels. The games focus on number and arithmetic and are provided at a suitable level for children receiving each colour parcel.
To make it fun, the parcels also contain extra materials to play the games, such as dice, coloured counters and token bank notes and coins!
Items are included which encourage writing and drawing, and support independent learning at home. Our approved supplier also provides large volumes of stationery to primary and secondary schools and all items comply with national and international safety standards.
Many local authorities and schools also choose to add key local information to some of the parcels, including:
- How children can join their local library, including a library membership card
- Local schemes or competitions that children can take part in e.g. summer reading schemes or library activity days
